Viver Brasil and Kátia Moraes

“Peace Transcends”

Saturday / May 30, 2015 / 7:00pm

Power, energy and passion are signature characteristics of the award winning Viver Brasil Dance Company rooted in the benevolent heart of African heritage of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Artistic duo Linda Yudin and Luiz Badaró use their distinctive choreographic voice to propel the fourteen-member company into a new era of work. A street-wise celebration of hypnotic rhythms of samba soundscapes transcend into a deeply ceremonial reverence saluting the essence of peace under the white cloth of Obatala.

The rolling hips of Bahia meet the swing and sway of a New Orleans second line parade… the combination soars with hope and optimism. — Linda Yudin

Blessed with a songbird’s voice, a poet’s heart and an entertainer’s vision, Kátia Moraes is the complete package. Since leaving Rio de Janeiro in the 1980s, Kátia has been offering alluring and captivating songs to the rest of the world. Her voice is rich, sensual and as expansive as Rio’s ocean. An evening with Kátia and the Brazilian Hearts is filled with joy, love and the spirit of Brazil.

Moraes’ singing, as always, is a virtual definition of the passion that is an implicit part of Brazilian music. — Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times
