Founded in 1968 as an artistic outlet for the film and record studios’ most gifted musicians, the
Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra is praised as “America’s finest chamber orchestra” and regarded as
one of the top ten ensembles of its kind in the world. Led by distinguished conductor and pianist
Jeffrey Kahane, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra opens its 2005-06 season with a celebration of
Mozart’s 250th birthday at UCLA’s elegant Royce Hall. The concert features the Overture to Mozart’s
final opera, La clemenza di Tito; a Tchaikovsky tribute to Mozart, the Mozartiana; and a solo piano
performance by Kahane of the Mozart Gigue and Minuet Tchaikovsky transcribed in his tribute. Cellist
Alisa Weilerstein, one of many rising stars who have debuted in Los Angeles with the LA Chamber Orchestra,
will perform Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations. William Bolcom’s Orphée Serenade rounds out the program.
Presented by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Society, Inc.
LACO Concert Preludes begin one hour before the concert starts featuring informal discussions with
guest soloists and additional performances by LACO Musicians. Concert Preludes are free with admission
to the concert.
