WORLD CITY - THE FIRST AMERICANS

The Music Center Education Division presents World City, a fascinating performance series that celebrates the rich diversity of cultural traditions reflected in the Los Angeles community. World City presents Geri Keams, a member of the Streak-of-Black Forest Clan of the Navajo and the Git-Hoan Dancers, who trace their ancestry to the Village of Metlakatla in Alaska. In the Northwestern singing and dancing traditions of the Tsimshian people Git-Hoan Dancers use magnificent hand carved masks, headdresses, and skin and wood drums to enact epic stories like: The Shaman and the Land Otter Women; and Killerwhale-Chief Of The Sea. Keams is a renowned storyteller and Wisdom Keeper who offers spellbinding ancient chants and Creation myths of Southwestern tribes. This is the opening event of the 2005-06 World City season, and is dedicated to the traditions of the First Americans and the art and knowledge of indigenous peoples of the Western Hemisphere.

This family event is set outdoors at the stunning Walt Disney Concert Hall. Presented by the Music Center Education Division.
