LATIN AMERICA - THE SPIRITUAL AND THE SACRED ACROSS THE CENTURIES
Los Folkloristas and Danza Floricanto/USA

Connecting to ancient roots, two groups with differing backgrounds, but with common threads explore the sounds of Pre- Columbian South America and centuries-old Mexican musical traditions. Los Folkloristas from Mexico, one of the most popular groups from Latin America and recipients of the INDIE award in World Music from the National Association of Record Distributors and the award winning Danza Floricanto/USA, the legendary Mexican Folk Dance Company native to the United States come together in an evening of celebration and reverence. Renowned for their mastery of more than 100 folk instruments, the five men and two women performers of Los Folkloristas are joined by the vibrant and spirited 12-member Floricanto troupe, led by Gema Sandoval. Together they embark on a passionate journey in search of wondrous musical and dance vistas from throughout South America. Their repertoire includes portions of the Misa Criolla, such as Konex Konex, Alma Meztisa, La Paloma, Vidala de Mi Sombra as well as more contemporary selections.

Presented by Danza Floricanto/USA with assistance from the Whittier Radisson Hotel and the Friends of Danza Floricanto/USA.
