Vocal Traditions of the East & West
Angel City Chorale & Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Monastic Choir

The magnificent fourteen-acre site of the Hsi Lai Temple—built in the styles of the Ming (1368-1644 C.E.) and Ching (1644-1911 C.E.) dynasties with traditional gardens and statuary of ancient Chinese monasteries—is the setting for two groups of heavenly voices to celebrate the family of man. From country villages to international stages, the Taiwanese Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Monastic Choir has celebrated the pristine sound of Buddhist chanting as a way for listeners to immerse themselves in the Buddha's light of compassion and wisdom. Singing sutras and other songs that praise the virtues of the Buddhas, the intention of the music is to help purify the human heart and guide sentient beings to enlightenment. Los Angeles' exciting and versatile vocal ensemble Angel City Chorale, has a passion for music that is virtually unmatched. Celebrating the full range of the human spirit with gospel, folk songs, spirituals, classical music, and even R & B, the Chorale is noted for their moving performances and their commitment to serving the community. Conducted by Sue Fink, the Chorale's music comes alive—providing inspiration through the power of poetry and song. Hosted by the Hsi Lai Temple.
