Using the symbolism of the Madonna/Mother Earth found in Southern Italian culture, singer/dancer/tambourine virtuoso Alessandra Belloni describes the cycles of life, women, and nature through powerful rhythms and haunting melodies. Belloni and the Our Lady of Lourdes Choir will be accompanied by frame drums, tambourines, and other percussion instruments. The concert features Belloni, performing Southern Italian chants and drumming, as well as chants to the Black Madonna from Mexico, Brazil, Portugal, Spain, and France. This unique collaboration with Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church—a magnificent, historic church in East Los Angeles dedicated to social justice, human dignity, freedom, and peace—begins and ends with a candlelight procession honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe.
