The joy of music is the theme of this event that opens a window on to the common ground of Judaic and Arab culture and sounds. An upbeat celebration of diverse musical styles, the event features the twenty-member Choir under the direction of Cantor Judy Sofer performing a wide repertoire of music spanning centuries of Jewish history. An award-winning playwright, Saleem is also an innovative performer of Middle Eastern music and dance who blends belly dancing, gypsy movements, flamenco, and jazz to create a provocative and fresh encounter with the Arab American experience. Singing together and separately, this evening of light-hearted music and spirited song is a reminder of the universal language of sacred music that speaks to all of us.
