Deeply New
New Sacred Music Performed & Written by CalArts Faculty, Students and Guests

As a center for experimentation, freedom of expression, and new musical forms, CalArts brings its unique and innovative status to bear on an evening of new music—wildly eclectic in form and origin-based on Buddhist, Judeo-Christian, Hindu and Sufi traditions. Vocal and choral music, operatic excerpts, chamber music and pieces incorporating live electronics, the concert includes John Cage's And the Earth Shall Bear Again and Prelude for Meditation; Anne LeBaron's Story of My Angel; David Rosenboom's Portable Gold and Philosophers' Stone, as well as works by Mel Powell, Marc Lowenstein, Tony Prabowo and Jarrad Powell. A special "after-hours" concert—mind is moving, based on a Zen Koan-written by Michael Pisaro— follows the main presentation. Presented by the California Institute of the Arts School of Music.
