Circle of Grace
Çudamani
and Shakti Dance Company
In
a spectacular participatory event under the stars, a
decorated chariot bearing the auspicious image of Lord
Vishnu is ushered in by the Vedic chants of Hindu priests.
The procession gathers in front of the breathtaking
temple entrancecarved and sculpted in traditional
South Indian (Chola-era) architectural style. In this
sacred space international artists from Bali, India,
and Los Angeles will perform classical treasures as
an invocation to peace and spiritual enlightenment.
Bringing music and dance back to the temple, Shakti
Dance Company's fifteen-member ensemble from India and
the United States will offer myth, legend, and devotion
in the form of Bharatanatyam, the classical dance of
South India. To honor their village tradition of performing
at temple ceremonies, Çudamani, a thirty-member
ensemble from Indonesia, offers a gift of sacred Balinese
gamelan music and dance. Presented by the Hindu Temple
Society of Southern California.
