Routes of Folklore: Cristian Amigo with Maestro Carlos Hayre & Guests
Composer, guitarist, and ethnomusicologist Cristian Amigo convenes a group of respected Latin American folklorists to perform a selection of both traditional religious music of Latin America (with an emphasis on South America) and contemporary selections composed especially for the World Festival of Sacred Music. The repertoire reflects the complex cultural and religious mix (mestizaje) of European, African, and indigenous cultures that have historically informed music making throughout the region. Performers include the Afro-Peruvian/criollo master guitarist Carlos Hayre; Chilean multi-instrumentalist Quique Cruz; Chilean singer/guitarist Lichi Fuentes; Peruvian singer/cajonista Braulio Barrera; and special guests. Presented by the Armory Center for the Arts.
