Live concert of morning ragas & interview on the air with India/US Jugalbandi Ensemble
Thursday, September 18th, 11am KPFK 90.7fm
on the GLOBAL VILLAGE with John Schnieder

Jugalbandi is the unusual art of weaving multiple voices into an interactive ensemble format. This trio of sitar, sarod and tabla is the first India/USA ensemble of Hindustani classical music to conduct an international tour. Firmly grounded in traditional forms the ensemble's music is guided with a contemporary neo-classical spirit while maintaining the integrity and depth of the Indian ragas. From serene meditations to virtuoso flights of improvisation and rhythmic dynamism these artists express music from the heart in the moment.

As disciples of the legendary 'godfather of world music' Pt. Ravi Shankar, Partho Sarathy on sarod and Paul Livingstone on sitar perform ragas in the tradition of the Maihar Gharana and are joined by one of India's leading tabla players Abhijit Banerjee.

Enjoy an evening of classical evening ragas that move from the quiet meditative invocations of pure melody through dynamic interplay and virtuosic polyrhythmic climaxes.
