Take a fiery, propulsive journey through the most ancient forms of prayer-drumming, dancing, and singing.  Thrill to the Afro-Cuban Bata-style drumming of Emikeke, led by the renowned percussionist Felipe García Villamil (with Ajamu Smith and Miguel and Atoyebi Villamil); the ecstatic rhythms of West African drumming by DAFRA; and the thunder of Japanese drums by the Taiko Center of Los Angeles.  Resplendent in shimmering costumes, celestial dancers depicted in ancient temple carvings come to life when the Khmer Arts Academy enacts the centuries-old ritual of Cambodian classical dance.  The Los Angeles-based dance troupe Viver Brazil will summon the Afro-Brazilian water spirits in a swirl of brilliant color and rhythm. An African heart also pulsates through the Afro-Bolivian and Afro-Peruvian music of Oscar Reynolds and Lalo Izquierdo.  The joy and warmth of gospel sung by Samoan and African American church choirs will send our spirits soaring even higher to cap this outdoor celebration of many worlds of sacred dance and music.
